The first day with the Samsung Galaxy Fold is over. Here's what I remember most.
Samsung Galaxy Fold is in my hands. In the next few weeks, it will be my primary means of communication.
I'd like to quickly feel which camp I'm leaning towards: those who claim that the flexible screen is a dead end in the evolution of gadgets? Or to those who think they are the future?
I want to believe in the second because I remember very well the sceptics talking about the dead-end when Jobs introduced the first iPhone.
So, the first calls made, the first pictures were taken with the camera and the first couple of hundred discoveries/closures of the magic folding device.
Later at NV Techno will be a great overview of the Samsung Galaxy Fold. In the meantime, let's talk about first impressions.
1. Well, very thick
Yes, when folded, the Samsung Galaxy Fold looks and feels like an old Nokia a la 6110 phone (yes, yes, I am very old and remember such ancient art facts). In other words, it's an impressive brick. Many people will not like to carry such a thing in their pockets.
2. But very glossy
It's creepy full. Samsung Galaxy Fold is wildly slippery. And to drop the gadget on the floor for two tons of greenery to few people hunting. And I have terribly stamped. The cleaners will wipe it almost every second. Yes, there is a case in the set, but I didn't like it at once. And I don't want to wear it. But, apparently, I will have to. So, about it later.
3. The bend on the screen is very noticeable
Yes, as much as Samsung fans would like to make everything work out for the company, but the place of bending on the screen is striking. And it is easy to feel. But, for the sake of fairness, it is possible to hide the fold, using a black background visually. Therefore, the default wallpaper on the desktop Galaxy Fold - the very notorious butterfly on a dark background.
Another question is why there is no global dark interface theme on the device. After all, then the place of bending could be noticed when viewing web pages (most, no matter how spinning, a light background) and photographs.
But in Samsung, for some reason, did not risk to go so far. Of course, dark topics are branded application store. But it is there it is necessary to come and download. And the best of them - paid.
4. Navigation buttons on the right - not scary, and the neckline on the top - not terrible
Yes, the Android navigation buttons are shifted to the right when unfolded. But no, I have no problems with this solution. Pins fit perfectly under the thumb of your right hand when you hold your smartphone with both sides. The neckline on the top right is a little annoying. But the screen is very large. And this moment is somehow lost.
5. The screen is phenomenally cool
Samsung basically makes the best screens in the world. And Galaxy Fold with its huge screen is a vivid proof of that. The screen is bright, contrasting, will not blink in the blazing sun. And its dimensions simply turn over the ideas about the convenience of viewing sites from a mobile device.
I'm not talking about games at all. This is just a hell of a game machine. In short, in the open state Galaxy Fold is a handy tablet. I would even say a handy mobile computer.
6. The external screen is creepy.
No, the flowers are fine there. But it's terribly small, and I don't want to use it at all. In fact, this solution pushes you to use Galaxy Fold for most of the actions only in an open state. And in the folded - well, except to answer the call.
7. Camera is gorgeous.
I took a dozen pictures literally. But at first impressions, the main camera here is gorgeous. Some people are outraged that the device for $2,000 received cameras from S10, not from Note 10 Plus. Yeah, well, both honey and spoons for you.
However, I will refrain from drawing conclusions until more images are accumulated in different conditions.
